Celebrating Impact’s Kindergarten Literacy Growth

At Impact, we believe every child deserves a strong start—and learning to read is a big part of that journey. That’s why we carefully track each scholar’s progress throughout the year using a trusted assessment tool from the 95% Group. These assessments help us understand what each child needs so we can give them the best support at the right time.

Our Kindergarteners are tested in the fall, winter, and spring. Their progress is shared with families at report card time and during conferences—and even more importantly, it helps our teachers tailor instruction to meet each child where they are.

Across our network, an average of 85% of our Kindergartners met their reading goals! Here’s how each school performed:

Impact | Puget Sound Elementary: 92.4%
Impact | Salish Sea Elementary: 78.5%
Impact | Commencement Bay Elementary: 86.8%
Impact | Black River Elementary: 81.3%
Network-wide average: 85.1%

We are so proud of our scholars’ incredible growth this year! These results are a reflection of our amazing teachers, our supportive families, and the joyful hard work our kids bring to school every day.

How We Compare Nationally

Across the country, many schools are still recovering from the effects of the pandemic on reading skills. National data shows:

  • 40% of 4th graders and 33% of 8th graders are reading below grade level.
  • Only 56% of Kindergarten through 2nd grade students are currently on track with reading—and nearly 1 in 3 are significantly behind.

That’s why it’s more important than ever to focus on strong reading instruction in the early years.

What Sets Impact Apart

  • Big Growth, Big Celebration: Our 85.1% Kindergarten literacy proficiency means the majority of our scholars are on track to become confident readers.
  • Rooted in Research: We use science-backed reading practices like phonics, early intervention, and universal screening to support every child.
Ahead of the Curve: Our results show that when schools are intentional and families are engaged, scholars thrive—setting us apart from national trends.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Your partnership helps us build a love of reading from the very beginning—laying the foundation for a lifetime of learning, curiosity, and confidence.
